This pattern, “Kaleidescape,” was born from my painting Birth of Stars. I detailed the process in my post Creating Patterns but I’ll cover it here as well in a bit more detail. I started by choosing a small, square portion of the painting. I then played with it to prepare it to be a seamless pattern, as shown below:
I made this square into a larger, seamless pattern like this:
Then I tiled it into a larger pattern:
Then since the expanded pattern felt too repetitive, I altered it to this:
